Barriere is popular for the North Thompson Fall Fair on Labour Day weekend every year, as well as the Provincial Winter Fair, the Celebration of Rural Living, and 4H and horse shows. If mountain biking is your thing, the Kamloops area has several options. Chinook Cove is a 9 hole, championship length golf course a few minutes north of Barriere.
Sun Peaks Resort is less than an hour away via a back road, and offers downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. There are also local cross-country ski trails.
